Your help is needed: We need volunteers for the following: February 2 Communion servers, and greeters for the month of March. Talk with Rosie Dewey to sign up.
A name change for our congregation is required by the Presbytery of Central Washington before it will dismiss us to the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, known as ECO. Our Session, which is responsible for such decisions, has voted to use the name Roslyn Presbyterian Church. Following dismissal at the end of March, we will begin to use the new name in our new denomination. We regret losing Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church as our historic name, but we had no choice in the matter. We can choose now, however, to be a worthy successor to that name, as we move forward with the clear and direct name of Roslyn Presbyterian Church.
The Men’s Group is studying the Book of Second Thessalonians on Tuesday evenings at 6:30, downstairs in the church. New men are always warmly welcomed. If you haven’t attended or haven’t done so for a while, join the warm fellowship and lively study this week. Pastor Berkley leads the discussions.
We Presbyterians govern ourselves like a representative democracy. Power and authority flow democratically from the bottom up, rather than authoritatively from the top down. The congregation elects and then ordains elders to serve on Session, moderated by the pastor. Session makes most of the decisions in the life of the church. In a pure democracy, the congregation would make such decisions. Instead, our decisions arise out of a group. Power doesn’t lodge in any one individual, which serves to check sin, which may accompany solo authority.
