What happens now with discernment? The Discernment Team from our presbytery is working with us to determine our denomination in the months to come. The team—four pastors and elders from the presbytery, and four elders from our church—met with the congregation last night, and now it will be setting up a date for our congregation to vote on asking to be dismissed from the Presbyterian Church (USA) to the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians. That vote will be the crucial determining factor: If at least 50% of our congregation shows up to vote and at least 75% of the votes favor being transferred, the presbytery will work toward effecting that transfer. Absent enough voters or a strong enough supermajority of the vote, however, Mt. Pisgah would not be dismissed. We will let you know the vote date as soon as possible. Please pray for a wise and just decision by our congregation and presbytery.
Children’s vacation outreach – This summer, plans are afoot for a weekly afternoon outreach to children in Roslyn. Susan Colts is heading up a plan for a “mini VBS” to be held one afternoon a week following the Fourth of July and on into August. If you have a heart for seeing children brought to faith in Jesus Christ and can help out in any way, please talk with Susan.
Looking for a Fourth of July innovation? Columnist and radio personality Dennis Prager has devised a brief ceremony for families to use on Independence Day. It is somewhat in the form of the Jewish Passover Seder, but it is intended to bring out the meaning of our independence and liberty, celebrated on the Fourth of July. If you would like to add a little meaning to your celebration, here is a link to Prager’s materials: http://www.prageruniversity.com/4th-of-july-declaration.html
