Have a blessed Thanksgiving. We give thanks to God all year long, but it is fitting to have a day when we especially focus on thanksgiving. And we have Someone personal and real to thank: God. It is by God’s gracious providence that we have life itself and all the blessings that allow us to enjoy life. Thank you, God!
Advent starts this coming Sunday. The period of Advent in the liturgical year includes the four Sundays prior to Christmas. While Advent prepares us for Christmas, Advent is not Christmas. Christians traditionally celebrate Christmas from Christmas Eve through Epiphany, which is January 6. Unfortunately, the big sales pitch has made commercial Christmas start sometime in September and end on Christmas Day. As we prepare for a sacred Christmas, we’ll sing Advent hymns and light candles on our Advent wreath during Advent, mixing in more Christmas carols as we approach Christmas. And we’ll keep singing Christmas carols through January 4, two Sundays after Christmas. May our Christmas be sacred!
Come celebrate Christmas with the church ladies of Roslyn!
We have invited our sisters in Christ from the Roslyn Episcopal and Catholic Churches to join us for a Christmas luncheon on Wednesday, December 3 at noon. Soup, salad and dessert will be served. You are welcome to bring a salad or a dessert to share but it is not necessary. There is an optional cookie exchange – join in if you would like: Bring 2 dozen and take 2 dozen home.
We will use the opportunity to benefit those less fortunate – we will be collecting items for Aspen House in Ellensburg serving women and children trying to escape abusive situations. (this is also optional) Items that Aspen is looking for: toiletries for women and children; gift items that children can choose to give their moms like gloves, scarves, candles; small gift items that moms can give their children; wrapping paper, gift bags, and bows. No need to wrap or put in gift bags – just bring as it is and we will deliver it to Aspen House.
Get some Christmas bling – Marian Russ will be teaching a class on making simple jewelry on Tuesday, December 2 at 2:00 pm, upstairs here at the church. Supplies will be provided (you may give donations towards their purchase). For more information call Beth Matanich at 649-3424.
Cristo Vive Church fund-raiser dinner in Yakima – We help support this Spanish-language congregation in Yakima, which is having a fund-raising dinner on Sunday, December 7, at 5:00 at Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church, Yakima. If you like delicious Mexican food and would like to help this congregation, contact our church office for reservation information. Cars will be going from here.
