Investigate church membership—no strings attached. This summer for three Sunday evenings, Pastor Berkley and the elders will conduct a New-Member Class for people investigating church membership.
We’ll meet on Sunday evenings, July 15, July 22, and August 12. The classes will look at our faith, this congregation, and personal commitment, and when the classes are completed, those attending can decide if now is the right time to join Mt. Pisgah—or not. Is now the time for you to say to your friends at Mt. Pisgah, “I do love Jesus Christ, and I’m in with you!”? A number of attenders have registered their interest already. Please call the church office (649-3572) to sign up.
General Assembly begins on Saturday ‒ Every two years, the highest Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) governing body meets for eight days to set church policy and approve plans. This year, General Assembly is in Pittsburgh June 30 to July 7, and Pastor Berkley will be there as a news writer for the Layman, an independent Presbyterian news source: www.layman.org. Please pray that the many pastor and elder commissioners from across the country will seek God’s will, and that the meeting will bring good and not ill for this troubled denomination. Caution: It is not uncommon for the secular press to misunderstand our church government, often treating provisional decisions as if they were final. Please exercise care if you read something sensational about the General Assembly in the news, understanding that Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church will not be led where it would be unwilling to go. Dr. Berkley will bring news and perspective from Pittsburgh when he returns, July 15, after a week of study leave at Whitworth University in Spokane.
General Assembly Prayer Guide Requests
Friday, June 29
Participants will be traveling from all over the United States to arrive in Pittsburgh. Pray for our safe (and uneventful) travels.
Saturday, June 30
Today we elect our Moderator and Vice Moderator. Pray that we would listen to and follow
God’s leading in choosing our new leaders.
Sunday, July 1
Committees meet for the first time this afternoon. Pray that God would give us wisdom and
a spirit of cooperation as we begin the process of deliberation and discernment.
Monday, July 2
This is our first fully scheduled day. Pray that God will give us stamina to accomplish all
the tasks that need to be done.
Tuesday, July 3
The work of committees concludes today. Pray that our work is an investment in building
up God’s church, rather than an exercise in furthering personal agendas.
Wednesday, July 4
We reconvene in plenary today, and will continue to meet this way for the remainder of the
week. Pray that the decisions that we make as a General Assembly will be a clear reflection
of God’s will.
Thursday, July 5
Plenary sessions continue today. Pray that God would protect us from attacks – both
personal and spiritual – that would hinder us from doing the work that He has called us to
do.
Friday, July 6
Today is our final full day of business. As exhaustion sets in and tensions run high, pray
that God will renew our spirits and remind us of why He brought us here.
Saturday, July 7
Business of GA220 concludes today, and participants return home. Pray for our safe
travels, as well as a smooth transition back to our regular lives and schedules.
