The Lord’s Day, March 29, 2020
BIBLE SENTENCE
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope.” (Romans 8: 18-20).
CALL TO WORSHIP
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens. When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.” (Psalm 8:1-5)
“The heavens declare the glory of God and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)
“Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it; shout, O depths of the earth; break forth into singing, O mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and will be glorified in Israel.” (Isaiah 44:23)
“Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; deliver us. . . for Your name’s sake. (Psalm 79:9)
“For all the promises of God find their Yes in Jesus Christ. That is why it is through Him that we utter our Amen to God for His glory.” (2 Corinthians 1:20)
“May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in His works. . . I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. . . Bless the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord!” (Psalm104:31-35)
SONG OF PRAISE: “Holy, Holy, Holy,”
INVOCATION
LORD, You are the Rock upon which we stand and mighty to save! We welcome the Holy Spirit to come and be a part of us. We ask that He quicken our hearts and allow Your Word to be the double-edged sword – piercing to the division of our soul and spirit as it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hear us this day as we rejoice in You and proclaim Your name among the nations!
HYMN OF WORSHIP: “Standing on the Promises,”
CONFESSING OUR SIN TOGETHER
Lord God, we confess our sin. Apart from You, we are broken, joyless people. We pursue wrong ends, fail to honor You, tear down those we should build up, neglect the good we should do, and heap dishonor upon ourselves. We merit punishment, but we ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ, who died for us. Amen.
Use the next few moments for quiet confession of sins to God.
WORDS OF COMFORT
“With everlasting love, I will have compassion on you,” says the Lord your Redeemer. “I am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake.”
HYMN OF ASSURANCE: “Oh, Love That Will Not Let Me Go,”
THE READING OF GOD’S WORD: (1 Kings 19:1-18)
