In the church calendar, the year begins before Christmas in the preparatory season called Advent. Then comes Christmas. Next is Epiphany, after the twelve days of Christmas. Then comes some “ordinary time.”
Today is Ash Wednesday and with it comes the time of solemn preparation for Easter that is called Lent. Lent ends with Good Friday (April 18 this year), two days before Easter (April 20). Christians have used Lent as a time of prayer and disciplines that help us contemplate all that God has done for us through Jesus Christ.
It is a good time to begin reading your Bible and praying daily, if you aren’t in the habit. It is a time to especially focus on the love of Jesus Christ.
Blessings,
Jim
